One way we can feel more of what we want in our relationship is by giving it to our partner. When we are focusing on being more loving, we inadvertently feel more love. Being a great partner is a very important part of being in a relationship.
How do we become a great partner?
1. Be honest and really look at the kind of partner you are being. Are you expecting your partner to do specific things to make you feel happy and loved? Are you giving love, but only conditionally? Do you feel like you’re giving everything but doing it with resentment? We sometimes forget that what is unspoken in a relationship is often more powerful than what is spoken. Really look at what you are doing and how you are loving your partner. Awareness is the most important step.
2. Determine what you most want to feel in your relationship, then give those things to your partner. If you want more love, give more love. If you want to be heard, make the time to listen. If you want to feel happy, give happily. Giving away all that you most want is one of the easiest ways to feel it ourselves. And giving to our partner in true love; without expectation, without conditions is one of the most beautiful things we can experience.
3. Before you act or react to something your partner says or does, ask yourself how you would want your partner to treat you if the tables were turned. Putting ourselves in our partner’s shoes can really help us be more empathetic, more loving, more understanding.
Come from your heart with this. Be willing to spend the entire week giving unconditionally. Give without needing anything in return. Give because you love your partner and care about your relationship being the best it can be.
Make sure you write down what you notice this week as you consciously be the best partner you can be.
