My friend Cindy, told me I was posting too late for her…so here I am. I admit I am not known to obey an order, but today is her birthday…so I’ll honour her wish!
My way to recover from a day like yesterday – when I feel bogged down by the troubles in the world – is to look for the good in myself, others, and the world.
I love the sentiment of Mr. Roger’s mother in his quote: “When I was boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
I would add to this brilliant quote: Be a helper when you can, especially when the world needs you most.
The truth is – I love people. Even dark times help me develop a greater sense of love, purpose, and understanding.

I too, have felt the weight of all that is happening right now, not only in the world at large but within my own circle of family and friends. When it gets heavy I try to get out for walks, sit on my deck with a cup of my favourite tea, go visit a favourite place etc.which lifts my spirits. It is important to do things for self care. This was something I learned the hard way over the years.
As for me being a helper right now, I’m helping a fellow writer of ours – Eileen Hartman – look for a new apartment. She has to vacate her present one by October 2nd where she has lived for 20+ years because of plumbing/heating issues. Her basement suite is in a 100+ year old house that needs major renos/repairs on all levels and it is too much cost for the landlord to do everything right now. She is a low income senior so that and the challenges presented by COVID have made the search much more difficult. If anyone knows of a low cost unit for rent somewhere I’d appreciate hearing from them.
I too, love people and get a great sense of satisfaction and purpose out of helping make someone’s life a little bit better.
I will put out the word for an affordable rental and let you know if something comes up.
